Judge Hurst is a native of Colorado. He graduated from Metropolitan State College and earned his law degree at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1996. He was in private practice, working on family, juvenile, probate and civil matters, and was a municipal prosecutor for 15 years. He then served 7 years as a District Magistrate in the 18th Judicial District.
From 2004 to 2018 he served the Town of Elizabeth as a trustee, mayor pro tem and, for two terms, mayor. Today he is a judge in Lincoln County and in Douglas County, where he handles probate, mental health and juvenile cases.
