Judge Gurney earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in 2003 and her law degree from the University of Colorado Law School in 2007. She worked as a Deputy Public Defender in Colorado Springs for fifteen years and in Steamboat Springs for one year. She then served for two years as a Magistrate, where she helped create the district's Competency Docket.
She was appointed to the District Court bench in May 2024.
