Judge Lawrence was born in Cortez, Colorado. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Fort Lewis College, a master's degree in interdisciplinary education from Adams State University, and her law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked as a trial lawyer on complex commercial cases and is admitted to practice in Colorado, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Florida.

She was appointed to the County Court for the 22nd Judicial District in 2010 and to the District Court in the 21st Judicial District in September 2024.
