Judge Martinez-Thomas is a Denver native. She earned her undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and her law degree from the University of Denver. She worked for the Colorado State Public Defender for 10 years, then served as a magistrate in the 17th Judicial District, where she oversaw criminal, protection order and domestic relations cases.

Mayor Hancock appointed her to the Denver County Court in March 2020.
