Judge Freyre earned her undergraduate degree in economics from Smith College. She worked as a manager with Oppenheimer Funds and as a banking management consultant before earning her law degree from the University of Denver in 1990. She began her legal career as a law clerk at a private criminal defense firm in Denver. She then spent 25 years as a deputy state public defender, working in the Appellate Division in Denver and the trial office in Arapahoe County.
She was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals in 2015 and was its Deputy Chief Judge from January 2022 to January 2026.
