Judge Whitaker earned both her undergraduate degree and her law degree at Ohio State University. She then moved to Colorado and began her career as a criminal defense attorney. For 18 years she worked as Alternate Defense Counsel, representing people who could not afford a lawyer in Arapahoe, Douglas, Lincoln and Kit Carson counties.
She was appointed in 2015. In Douglas County she first handled a mix of civil, criminal, dependency and neglect, and juvenile cases. She now presides over a criminal docket.
